This is supposed to be a speed limit sign in Ontario. It is not however. Someone should make a movie about that...

On a 100km drive from Toronto Pearson to Waterloo, I passed zero people when following the absolutely moronic 100km/h limit on the 401.

The following movie was done a few years ago, and shows the idiocy of an arbitrarily low limit.

You'll never be the dominant industrial power if you drive at that speed! - Clarkson on the 100km/h limit in Japan

Will never change, Mr De Luca is more concerned about lowering the residential limits to 40, and the income they get from people driving at a reasonable speed (80 percentile).

The unofficial speed limit on the 400 is 120-130. I have had cops come up on my ass thinking Aww feck ticket, and than the pass me, and are just a spec before you know it

Don't go 100 on that section of the 401 it's not safe to do so.

I often drive at 110, most cars go that speed, except for the occasional lanehogging slowpoke.

This is quite actually the worst website I've ever been on.

I can get behind the message, but it's hard to take it seriously when it looks Debbie got a hold of a Geocities account while her daughter was at soccer practice.

I was actually expecting to make the traffic report:

"There's a lunatic going 100 in the right lane on the 401 towards London just past the 427"

It should be signed 120 or 130, to be quite honest.

I was that slowpoke. Except *I* was in the right hand lane.

Even on ON-8 towards Kitchner, the limit is 90 and it should be signed 110 or 120.

110 is very safe*.

120 is safe*, provided you aren't doing it in London on the 31st of the month.

130 is safe* on many stretches, but if you don't have local knowledge, don't do it without some "bear bait".

*safe, as in safe from the cops.

Around Guelph, you can often do as much as 140, though not so much because the cops ignore you as because they'll pick someone else up first. But then you get to London, where over 120=redblueredblueredblue#$@*...

The Canadians inhabiting that stretch of road also caused me to coin a maneuver I like to call the "Canadian Lane Change."

It's where a person changing lanes at highway speeds only signals as they are changing lanes, ostensibly to prevent any following drivers from seeing what they're about to do so they can cut off the signaler.

It's quite brilliant. I've applied the logic of it to my commute, and it really has cut back on the assholes well behind me in the next lane over who floor it when I signal that want to be in that lane.

It's the polite BMW driver method. I also saw single blinks of turn signals, and the classic "cut two lanes over and slam on the brakes" maneuver.

Basically, it seems that the Transport Ministry is completely sold on The Cocaine.

Oh wait, that would make them drive faster. So they are completely sold on LSD.

Because, like, MAN, we don't have nowhere to go, so why should you, MAN?

I have noticed the 140, but that was when I had my 04 Zx5, she got shaky over 120

Never drove further than Waterloo on the 401, and the 416 is basically a cop's nest at night, especially when they blind you with their high beams facing your way.

I saw loads of cops under the same bridge while going to Montreal too back in September, they were ready for a gangbang of sorts.

I've been on the ON-8 I believe, and I agree entirely. there's always a car going 80 in the left lane, and often times, it's a Quebec plate.

At least I'm nice enough to stay to the right. But if you put a QC plate on US roads, they are maniacs.

Now if the provincial government were nice enough to raise the limits to something credible. But they won't. They make too much money and are too chicken to raise taxes to cover the loss of fine revenue, because they know they would be voted out.

Try Chatham Kent. They let you go 120. Unless they need to hit quota. Then 110 gets you

Popped. And the CK regional and OPP have bases in every group of 5 or more houses in the region. I once was driving from Windsor to Ingersoll area and there was a cruiser at every over pass. Truthfully there may have been 2 that weren't covered.

Fun fact:

One of the reasons that you can get away with 120 in most regions is because the limits are so rediculously low that the courts are completely packed. Apparently, (from info on a lawyer's website) speeding tickets less than 20% over the limit are commonly tossed out. Hence 100+20%=120.
